MURRAY HILL MUSIC CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
GUITAR LESSONS for Children (ages 7+) and adults
Beginner-intermediate Pop/Rock/Blues/Folk guitar lessons are customized for each student’s ability. If you've never picked up a guitar before, you will learn all you need to get you on the road to playing all your favorite songs and have a lot of fun while learning. Students will learn chord positions, barre chords, flat-picking, and strum styles. Alternate tunings and finger picking styles will be explored for the more advanced students. Introduction to Tenor Guitar styles (in G tuning) are also available for intermediate students. No previous knowledge of guitar needed for beginner courses, however you must have your own instrument to work with at home for your practice sessions. All beginner children classes are 30 minutes long.
I am now accepting students in the NYC area (Murray Hill, Gramercy Park) for private classes and workshops. A free 15-minute consultation via FT phone or Skype will take place before the first meeting so a proper class can be put together for each student’s needs.
SINGER-SONGWRITER WORKSHOPS
Take a dream, and turn it into a reality! There is no start date, or expiration date on creating music, (or any kind of art), all you need is passion, and the courage to take the first step.
This course is suited to those looking to embrace the craft of being a singer/songwriter, while improving guitar and vocal skills. Be it for professional reasons, or just the pure joy of creating music. Learn to take your guitar, your voice, and your ideas, and bring them together to tell your story, your way, and with your own unique presentation. Find your strengths, your ‘sound’ and your style, while having a lot of fun in the process. Where you go with it, is all up to you.
You will learn to play music, and write songs using your ears and your heart. Basic chords, and popular chord progressions used in many hit songs (Pop/Rock/Indie/Folk/Blues). How to build a song from scratch. What chords inspire certain emotions. Where to find ideas, and how to shape them into a lyric. Exploring why and how a song works. Warm up exercises to strengthen your vocal chords, and guitar playing abilities. How to find your ‘unique’ voice and style, by learning from artists you admire, but never imitating them. Learn to take your final product and turn it into a performance. For those interested in going professional, the workshops will also touch on what goes on in a recording studio and how a record is made. All classes are curated according to each individual student based on musical ability, age, and goals. No two students are the same, and everyone has a different road they will need to take.
NEW!!! I will be offering a 90 minute seminar for young teenagers who are curious about DJ-ing and have never worked with Serato and a mixer. Basic introduction to Serato, how to set up the computer and mixer, wire things up, making crates in your iTunes/Music library, how beat matching works, and how to practice gracefully mixing from one song to another. Also, thoughts on how to 'think' when entertaining a party and choosing the right songs. Reading a crowd. This is an intro seminar to take the mystery out of what you see on TV, and to get you on your way to mixing up a storm! Please visit the DJ page on this site for a little background to my work as an event and club DJ, as well as my DJ WEBSITE
